Ryde Eastwood Hawks take a Grand Stand against domestic abuse

Ryde Eastwood Hawks is a proud and new partner of Northern Sydney Local Health District’s “Grand Stand” program to raise awareness and take a grand stand against domestic violence in the local community.

The Grand Stand Program aims to shift attitudes and behaviours that contribute to DFV, while also addressing related risks such as alcohol misuse, gambling harm and mental health challenges. Developed for the Northern Sydney region, the program has been shaped by local input and the needs of partnering clubs.

Domestic and Family violence remains a pressing issue impacting our whole community, including our own. Across Northern Sydney, over 1,500 domestic assaults were recorded by Police in 2025. However, these numbers only scratch the surface, as this likely represents only 40% of actual incidents due to underreporting.

Ryde Eastwood’s involvement in The Grand Stand Program also includes player education, a review of alcohol management and mental health strategies and committed sanctions for players who perpetrate domestic violence. Crystal Hillery, Program Manager at Northern Sydney Local Health District says “The comprehensive program focusses on equipping good men within sporting clubs with the knowledge and skills needed to be leaders in their community against domestic violence. This can create a positive ripple effect that fosters safer and more supportive environments for all.”

A dedicated Grand Stand awareness round is being held on May 9th 2026 at Lidcombe Oval, and the Hawks are calling on all fans of the game to attend to show their support for this cause. Attendees are encouraged to wear bright orange to represent a brighter future.

Support is available for people experiencing violence and abuse. Call 1800RESPECT, Text 0458 737 732 or visit www.1800respect.org.au. If you are concerned about your behaviour, or about someone using any form of violence, free support is available via the Men’s Referral Service by calling 1300 766 491 or visiting mrs.org.au. Always call 000 if you are in danger.

Vale Noah Johannssen

This week, the Ryde Eastwood Hawks community is grieving the loss of one of our own.
Noah Johannssen was more than a teammate — he was a mate, a contributor, a presence that made our club stronger simply by being part of it.

In moments like this, we’re reminded that a club is a family. We celebrate together, we compete together, and when we lose someone, we stand together in our grief.

To the Johannssen family, friends, and everyone who loved Noah — our hearts are with you.
We honour his memory, his impact, and the legacy he leaves within the Hawks community.

Vale Darryle Alexander

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of one of the Hawks favourite sons, Darryle Alexander, who passed away peacefully on 8th December at the age of 75. Darryle was a much loved, respected and admired member of the Hawks family and gave many years service to the Hawks both as player, coach and supporter.

All family and friends are warmly invited to attend a celebration of Darryle’s life at the Hillside Chapel, Palmdale Lawn Cemetery & Memorial Park, 57 Palmdale Rd, Palmdale on Tuesday 16th December at 1.30pm
